Maxis clinches RM81mil contract from Measat

If Maxis is listed in Bursa... I think the share will sure gone up up up...haha with this news

It will design, supply, commission and manage Astro’s network infrastructure

PETALING JAYA: Maxis Communications Bhd has secured a five-year contract worth RM81mil from Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd, a unit of Astro All Asia Networks plc, to design, supply, commission and manage Astro’s nationwide network infrastructure.

In a statement yesterday, the telecommunications company (telco) said it would be integrating data, voice and video services in Astro’s network infrastructure at 35 sites nationwide.

“The project entails the deployment of a nationwide secured data network using IP MPLS technology to support corporate data and voice, and Internet traffic, as well as mission critical business applications with quality of service levels built-in,” it said.

Maxis will refresh the network equipment of Astro’s current voice and data nationwide infrastructure with Voice over Internet Protocol technology to be deployed for the voice architecture.

On improving service levels, the telco said it would be working with other service providers to supply redundant circuits for key Astro sites.

Astro director of information technology Phuah Aik Chong said the venture with Maxis to migrate to the next-generation network infrastructure was intended to better meet customer expectations.

“This provides Astro with an integrated framework to rapidly launch new offerings and deliver highly personalised service to our customers, while helping us streamline operations and optimise costs,” he said.

Maxis vice-president and head of enterprise and carrier business division Fitri Abdullah said the company’s solution and integration team would work closely with technology and integration partners, Hewlett-Packard and Cisco, in the managed communication services project deployment.

“We will also be working with other service providers to provide redundant links for Astro’s key sites to ensure higher service levels for Astro. Our aim is to be a partner-of-choice for enterprises migrating to next generation networks in Malaysia,” he added.

An analyst with a local brokerage said the contract was “a sizeable amount from Astro” to upgrade its present platform. “It’s an operational upgrade, which bodes well for the company to roll out new products in the future,” he said.
